American rock band the Drive-By Truckers 2001 album Southern Rock Opera is a homage to all thing South and in particular their heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The song "Let There Be Rock" tells the story of singer Patterson Hood's early rock concert experiences and never getting to see the original Skynyrd lineup before tragic plane crash which killed singer Ronnie Van Zant and Guitarist Steve Gaines.
