"The Ocean" was one of a number of songs originally recorded for The Velvet Underground's forth album before the band were released from their record contract and the album got shelved.
The best of these sessions were released in 1985 under the title VU. Lou Reed also went on to record and release another version of the song on his self-titled debut album.
